The theme of this year's edition of the Young Design competition was "REsponsibility - Responsibility, sustainable design", which is why the organizers wanted to show good practices of sustainable design also when creating exhibitions. From the beginning, the exhibition and its theme were communicated through the use of sustainable materials. They became the leitmotif of the visual identification of this year's edition, and then of the exhibition itself. The shapes used in the posters materialized in the form of spatial arrangements. The exhibition itself, in addition to presenting the boards of the 10 finalists, consisted of an educational and inspirational corner with innovative materials.
The elements of the exhibition design included furniture made of hemp wood substitute The True Green x Husarska. The room was decorated with cream-colored INZEA biodegradable foil made of corn starch from the C2C distributor, and the educational corner featured recycled granules and Hempsome hemp concrete. The True Green company sponsored the production of prizes in the form of cubes made of their innovative hemp material. Each of them contained information about the CO2 accumulated in the raw material, which was not released into the atmosphere thanks to the creation of this material.
Promotional and advertising materials have also been designed in a sustainable way. The banner on the facade was created by reusing materials from the previous year. In turn, a large-format textile banner for interiors has been designed to extend its life cycle. In the spirit of REthink, a canvas has been created that can be used every year, allowing the information layer to be changed and reducing the amount of waste.
Of course, the most important material at the exhibition were the boards of the finalists and winners of the Young Design competition. Instead of using PVC foam in the exhibition, the boards were stiffened with cardboard, making it easier to recycle the materials later. Similarly, the statuettes did not differ in their philosophy from the rest of the event.
The implementation of the exhibition in the spirit of REsponsibility was intended to stimulate reflection and question current practices in the production of events and promotional materials. With this project, the Institute of Industrial Design and the producer of the exhibition, Husarska design studio, sets a new direction and sets an example of how to create events in a more responsible way.
